Patient and Community Support Network

- Holland Resources Development Corporation
- Represents Holland Centre, a partnership of private and
public resources providing frontline health and social
services to the English-speaking communities in the Québec
and Chaudière-Appalaches regions. Prevention, wellness
promotion, treatment and support are areas of expertise.
Holland Centre is involved in community development projects
in the two regions and supports an extensive network of
volunteers.
Project Goal
- Improve the health determinants affecting English-speaking
communities in rural and distant regions through the
application of information and communication technology;
- Improve the health determinants affecting English-speaking
persons with special needs and who may face barriers to access
to services within a region;
- The aim is to link these communities with existing
English-language health promotion and patient support programs
and medical expertise presently serving critical masses of
English-speaking people.
Project Activities
- Five pilot projects using videoconferencing technology to
link services to client groups or communities;
- McGill School of Social Work - Centre for Applied Family
Studies is linking with Holland Centre in Quebec City to
provide counselling in the areas of domestic violence, couple
and family problems, loss and bereavement, and adolescent
sexuality issues.
- The Fraser Recovery Program, which provides programs to
promote the treatment and prevention of substance abuse by
young English-speaking Quebecers, is linking its group
programs in Montreal and Quebec City.
- The McGill University Health Centre - Outreach Program is
working with the Committee for Anglophone Social Action to
provide three information sessions to communities on the
Gaspé coast. The sessions will deal with breast cancer,
diabetes, and families with children experiencing behaviour
problems.
- Batshaw Youth and Family Centres is creating a video link
with Les Centres de la Jeunesse de la Montérégie, to
facilitate the social reinsertion of English-speaking youth
from the Montérégie regions being treated in the Batshaw
network.
- Constance Lethbridge Centre is linking with Bayview Hospital
in the West Island to facilitate treatment of English-speaking
patients with physical disabilities.
