Community Health Promotion Projects (HPP)

Region 12 - Chaudières-Appalaches

Organization: Megantic English-speaking Community Development Corporation (MCDC)

Project description 2012-2013:

Adapting support services for easier access in English

Dr. J Pocock’s research, “A Profile of the ESC of Appalaches, L’Érable, and Lotbinière MRC territories,” states that 56.9% of the ES population is aged 45 years and older. As a result, the MCDC health promotion strategy includes the Health After 50 program. This tried and tested program has proved successful in Outaouais and the Montérégie. MCDC joins 3 CSSSs in the region, Thetford, Athabaska-Érable, and Alphonse-Desjardins, to support the program.

Project description 2011-2012:

Adapting support services for easier access in English

The MCDC serves and promotes the well-being of the English-speaking community of the Chaudière-Appalaches and Bois-Francs regions by offering programs to all age groups, access to information and referrals to health and social services in English, and volunteer and interpreter services. MCDC identified topics crucial to the community including cancer, chronic disease, end-of-life care and mental health, which direct their health promotion efforts for the current year.

The PIED program, a new addition to the cadre of last year’s offerings, proved to be a fantastic success in the community. As a result, MCDC plans to offer the next level of PIED, and will leverage the work of its NPI colleague, REISA, to work on diabetes-related programming, as well as make headway into end-of-life and mental health programs.

Project description 2010-2011:

Adapting support service for easier access in English

MCDC will work with the CSSS to adapt 3 support services as identified and prioritized by the community in 2009-2010. MCDC aims to secure support from community and public partners to deliver programs and use learning’s to develop similar support services across several CSSS territories.
