Community Health Promotion Projects (HPP)
Region 01 - Bas Saint-Laurent
Organization: Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence
Project description 2012-2013:
Taking Control
This year’s health promotion program focuses on a
next-generation design for the community and health newsletters,
which will become one publication, to include segments for
youth, a Q&A section, and a monthly feature on a particular
health topic. The Community Training Room has regular offerings
of Tai Box and Zumba, and plans to explore additional activities
for its local residents. Finally, community members will have
access to a whole new series of Community Health
Videoconferences, and an updated Health and Social Service
resource guide.
Project description 2011-2012:
Taking Control
Heritage Lower St. Lawrence contributes to the development of
the English-speaking communities of the Lower St. Lawrence to
enhance their vitality. This year’s health promotion project
efforts are three-fold: 1- implement a bi-monthly newsletter
that will encourage a vibrant exchange of communication and
dissemination of information; develop a physical activity
program designed to meet the needs of all age groups, and 3-
increase sharing of English language information (documents,
books, pamphlets, web-based resources, etc.) that have been
rigorously collected.
Partnering with health professionals in our region not only
helps users become more aware and understand these materials,
but also encourages them to try out tools and resources now
available within the English community. “Kitchen-Table”
conferences and/or larger community gatherings allow community
members to benefit from this information to which they now have
access. This resource centre will also offer individual
consultation with professionals, upon request.
Project description 2010-2011:
Taking Control
We will implement a monthly newsletter that will encourage multi-level, multi-direction communication and dissemination of health promotion and disease prevention information.
Heritage will also support a multi-partner community initiative to provide a physical activity program designed to meet the needs of all age groups in our community.
